In order to achieve its strategic objectives, WAG is responding to emergencies with the aim of addressing the SRHR needs of women and girls during and in the aftermath of a disaster. The expected outcomes are to reducethe vulnerability of women and girls to GBV and SRH challenges in humanitarian settings. Understanding needs and context is vital in an emergency response.
Beyond basic needs, crises often have long-term devastating effects on the community based on pre-existing gendered differences. Furthermore, gender-based violence could be worsened or changed by a humanitarian crisis. WAG seeks to be visible in emergency response with a focus on addressing the GBV and SRHR needs of women and girls and ensuring gender-sensitive response during an emergency and in the recovery period.
