WAG in partnership with Safe Abortion Action Fund conducted a research on abortion knowledge and attitudes among key populations in Zimbabwe in 2018. The purpose of the study was to assess knowledge and attitudes about abortion amongst key populations in Zimbabwe and to explore the social/cultural and religious discourses/practices in key population’s understandings of abortion in Zimbabwe. The results from the study show that there are low levels of knowledge on the ToP and high level of negative attitudes among the community and service providers. The study findings have been disseminated and used for advocacy engagements.
The study findings resulted in the following recommendations:
- The need to strengthen post abortion services by the Ministry of Health and Child care
- More efforts needed in regards to spreading information about the Termination of Pregnancy Act at community level
- Training of service providers on post abortion care services and the termination of Pregnancy Act
